CALLED TO CARE FOR THE LIFE GIVING WATERS OF CREATION

“Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream”

(Amos 5:24)

Who We Are

The Ecumenical Water Initiative is comprised of folks from the ELCA Lutheran Church, African Methodist Episcopal Church, United Methodist Church, and the Minnesota Council of Churches. As an ecumenical cohort of faith leaders, we organize around water and justice issues.

Grounded in Faith

As people of faith, we are called to be stewards of the Earth – to care for the life-giving waters of creation.

Water Equity & Justice

To live justly together, it is both a matter of stewarding the lands and waters God created, and of loving our human neighbor. When our neighbors lack access to healthy and safe water, we are not living into our call to care for God’s creation.

Called to Action

From marching for the climate to writing letters to our legislators, we believe that change starts with action.

UPCOMING EVENT!

In late Spring, the Ecumenical Water Initiative hosted a letter writing event in support of Governor Tim Walz’s proposed $300 million budget in the 2020 bonding session for water infrastructure projects throughout Minnesota

Much has changed since then: The 2020 legislative session ended without action on the bonding bill (which includes the Governor’s proposal), and a special legislative session in June ended last week with no progress on policing, COVID-19, or the bonding bill.

Constituents are calling for another special session to make decisions on these topics. Amid important conversations on police brutality and COVID-19, racial and economic injustices, we must also continue to address aging and failing water infrastructure as a matter of justice. Bonding funds for water infrastructure would be allocated to a variety of projects, including wastewater and drinking water infrastructure upgrades, with particular assistance for rural and vulnerable communities who lack the funds to make these upgrades on their own.

Join us (and please invite others!) for a letter-writing event hosted by the Ecumenical Water Initiative Thursday, July 2nd from 8:30-9:30 a.m. This is a drop-in event, so come and go during the hour to get materials and support in writing your letter.
